5 Top Diet Tips for Healthy Looking Skin

5 top diet tips for healthy looking skin.

You are what you eat. That statement is true even when it comes to the health of your skin, so what should we be eating to ensure our skin stays beautiful and healthy?

1. Vitamin C

Antioxidants are always great for general health but they also play a part in healthy skin. A major antioxidant is Vitamin C – this boosts your immune system and contributes to healing skin and health. Our top recommendations to increase your vitamin C intake would be to grab these tasty healthy power boosters:

Strawberries
Oranges
Blackcurrants
Blueberrys
Broccoli

2. Water

OK it’s drinking rather than eating. In order for better skin health you need to keep your skin hydrated. The most natural way to do this is to drink water –simple! Mild dehydration will cause your skin to look tired, grey and dry. It’s recommended to drink around six to eight regular glasses of pure water a day.

3. Phyto-estrogens

First question – what are they? That’s what we thought! Phyto-estrogens are naturally found in plant foods (phyto meaning plant). These compounds have a similar structure to the sex hormone oestrogen and have been found to contribute to a natural hormonal in balance. The best foods to find these in are:

Soy Beans
Tofu
Linseed (flax)
Sesame Seeds
Wheat
Berries
Oats & Barley

4. Omega-3

Omega-3 and 6 oils are essential, and your body cannot make these naturally so you need the right diet to take them in. Omega oils and fats encourage the body to produce anti-inflammatory compounds, which in turn help the skin and inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. To get these fats make sure you eat:

Fish
Flaxseed & rapeseed oil
Linseeds
Walnuts

5. Five-a-day

Eat your fruit and veg! They contain vital antioxidants to help protect skin from free radicals that cause damage on a cellular level. Try to eat a variety of coloured vegetables and fruits to get the best results and aim for 5 portions a day if possible (the more colours the better!). Eating fruit and veg help with normal skin development and a healthy skin tone.

These are just some of the ways to keep your skin looking beautiful, young and healthy. Of course, you can also try our gorgeous range of face masks and skin care products which are specifically designed to improve your complexion and heal mild skin issues :)
